On August 8, 2016, police responded to the shooting of 10 year old Tavon Tanner in the Lawndale neighborhood. Tanner was the unintended victim of neighborhood violence and one of over two dozen children under 12 shot in Chicago this year alone. Tribune reporter Mary Schmich chronicled the story of Tavon Tanner, hoping to demonstrate how these kinds of violent acts impact young children and their families. Schmich met with CCR Director, Dr. Colleen Cicchetti among other Lurie clinicians to better understand how Lurie is working to tackle this growing epidemic of violence in Chicago.

CCR Particpates in Press Conference with Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel
On Monday, November 14th, 2016, CCR team members participated in a press conference held at Lurie Children's to address the growing concerns among youth feeling marginalized and despondent post-election. In addition to disseminating resources for youth in crisis, Mayor Rahm Emanuel assured the crowd that Chicago would always remain a "sanctuary city." Watch here
Chicago Reporter: 'Decimated' Services for Traumatized Chicago Students To Get Federal Funding
A new $1.3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education will support more mental health services at 10 high schools on the South and West sides of the city, where students are at high risk of exposure to violence.
