​Chicago Tribune Chronicles the Story a Young Boy in the Aftermath of Gun Violence

On August 8, 2016, police responded to the shooting of 10 year old Tavon Tanner in the Lawndale neighborhood. Tanner was the unintended victim of neighborhood violence and one of over two dozen children under 12 shot in Chicago this year alone. Tribune reporter Mary Schmich chronicled the story of Tavon Tanner, hoping to demonstrate how these kinds of violent acts impact young children and their families. Schmich met with CCR Director, Dr. Colleen Cicchetti among other Lurie clinicians to better understand how Lurie is working to tackle this growing epidemic of violence in Chicago.
