Building Relationships & Connectedness:

Fostering positive parent and child relationships, sibling relationships and adult-to-adult relationships can be challenging during this time of social isolation. Striving for a balance of independent time and opportunities for joint activities that fit with the other work, school and household responsibilities can promote adjustment. Be sure to include time to communicate, share feelings, and enjoy shared activities with those who are important to you and your child, including both those with whom they are in daily in-person contact and those they are unable to see. Explore ways to build new connections or shared activities. Even young children can utilize Face Time or other media platforms to connect with family. Older children can write letters to friends and family members or communicate electronically or via social media.

In addition, by linking to familiar community groups or efforts, children can enhance their sense of helpfulness and power during uncertainty. Collecting donations, sending letters or helping to care for your home can be very reassuring and fun family activities.
